Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) is a diagnostic and therapeutic technique that records the electrophysiological activity of the heart in units of time through the body wall, and captures and records it through electrodes that touch the skin. This is a non-invasive way of recording. The working principle of ECG is that every time heartbeat cardiomyocytes depolarize, it will cause small electrical changes on the surface of the skin. This small change is captured and amplified by the ECG recording device to depict the ECG. When cardiomyocytes are in a resting state, there is a potential difference formed by the concentration difference between positive and negative ions on both sides of the myocardial cell membrane. Depolarization is the process in which the potential difference of cardiomyocytes changes rapidly to zero and causes cardiomyocytes to contract. In a cardiac cycle of a healthy heart, the depolarization waves generated by the cells of the sinoatrial node propagate in the heart in an orderly manner, first to the entire atrium, and then to the ventricle through the "intrinsic conduction pathway". If two electrodes are placed on any two sides of the heart, the tiny voltage changes between the two electrodes can be recorded during this process, and can be displayed on the ECG chart or monitor. An EKG can show the rhythm of the entire heart beating, as well as the weaker parts of the heart muscle.
